Married With Horses

Nov 30, 2018

Howdy!

Our guest this week is Jessica Routier. Jessica will be competing at her first National Finals Rodeo beginning in one week (from the time of this release). Jessica and her main mount, a 7yo palomino mare named Fiery Miss West or “Missy”, have cashed in about $100k this regular season which will see her ending in the Thomas and Mack. Jessica, her husband Riley, and their 5 (YES, 5!) children live in Buffalo, South Dakota and own, live on, and run a a pretty good sized cattle ranch. Real deal, true blue cowboy stuff. She’s an accomplished barrel racer as well as a really awesome person. We talk with her about her dream season, her family, her roots, her horse, and everything in between. We even manage to answer a couple questions from social media together. This cowgirl is real easy to cheer for and you can bet we certainly will!

Be sure to check the show notes for Jessica’s social media info and such!

SHOW NOTES:

  • Questions from Social Media we answered during our conversation:
    • Katie Stubblefield asks: I’d like to know what [Jessica’s] plan is with training/seasoning young horses. Does she futurity or do more ranch work before putting them on barrels?
    • Jessica Gjovig asks: First off, I would like to congratulate Jessica on her years achievements. Love seeing another Dakota cowgirl represented at the big show.
I do not have a horse ready yet, but a 10 yr goal of mine is to make the Badlands Circuit Finals with one of my home raised colts. What advice or expectations can you give to a Rookie preparing to roll with the big dogs?
Best of luck at the finals, hope we get to see Smoothie on the big screen too!
